Oracle Plans Up to 30,000 Job Cuts as AI Adoption Expands

Oracle has linked potential workforce reductions to the adoption and deployment of AI technologies across its operations.

Oracle is reported to be planning up to 30,000 job reductions, equivalent to about 18.5% of its workforce. Reports also cite a 21,000-person headcount decline in fiscal 2026, from roughly 162,000 to 141,000 employees.

Oracle said in reporting cited by the findings: “The adoption and deployment of AI technologies across our operations have resulted, and may continue to result, in reductions to our workforce.” The cuts were announced or reported between March and June 2026.

The scale comes as AI was the most frequently cited reason for US job cuts in the first half of 2026. Challenger, Gray & Christmas data cited by Financial Express attributed 101,743 layoffs to AI, ahead of market conditions.

For employers, Oracle’s example highlights the need to define which work is genuinely removed or reorganised before selecting roles. In Australia, an AI-driven restructure still requires a genuine redundancy, consultation before decisions are finalised, and proper consideration of redeployment into available suitable work.

Key points
  • Oracle was reported to be planning up to 30,000 job reductions.
  • The company linked workforce reductions to AI adoption and deployment across its operations.
  • Reports also cited a 21,000-person fiscal 2026 headcount decline.
  • AI was the most frequently cited reason for US job cuts in the first half of 2026, according to data cited by Financial Express.

For employers: Treat AI as the reason for redesigning work, not as an automatic justification for selecting people. Map the roles and duties genuinely removed, consult before finalising decisions, and assess suitable redeployment opportunities to support a lawful genuine redundancy process.
